Technically fall doesn't begin until September 23rd, but summer is wrapping up and sweater weather is nearly upon us up here in the northeast. Currently it's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and designers are showing-off their spring collections, but in case you missed the fall trends (after all, fall's not even technically here!), here's Style.com's Runway Trend Reports for fall 2014. The fall and winter statements include bright pastels like red and pink, chunky knits, overalls, cowboy hats and more. In case you're wondering what was in style last year to see if you can retool the look, take a look at our blog post for fall fashion 2013. Even though they're last years' styles, who knows? Maybe some of the trends will make a comeback. I mean who would have thought we'd see overalls again?
Regardless of what the runway says, I always "fall" back to the classic trends of the season. (Pun oh-so-intended.) Here are some of them:
Flannel, flannel, flannel:
For those who aren't flannel fans, I apologize, but I just can't get enough of it. Layering is key to staying warm as well as fully utilizing your wardrobe. Add a leather jacket, a jean vest, or a fur vest.
Once you find that perfect flannel shirt, the options are endless. Check out this post on four different ways to add flannel to your outfit.
Just like that perfect flannel shirt, you probably have a go-to sweater. I love a good white cable-knit sweater. Add a fur vest or dress it up with a skirt.
Sweaters with skirts are cute and can work in the office environment so you can look professional while staying cozy. Another option is to wear your sweater over a button-up shirt.
Another valuable purchase of the season, jean shirts go with almost everything. Here's one of my favorite ones from TopShop; the rhinestones give it an edgy touch.
Obviously. What's fall without a good scarf? Here are 3 different ways to wear a scarf.
Add some leg warmers or leggings under your boots for warmth and flare. Also, if you're still in summer mode, throw on a pair of leggings underneath your jean shorts or your best summer dress to keep summer going forever.
What are some of your favorite fall trends?
