After this brutal winter, and I mean brutal, we at the House Party Blog are counting the days until summer! And by my calculations it officially begins in 22 days. So, in honor of this most anticipated season, we've got five reasons summer rocks! 1) No more socks! Don't get me wrong, I love shoes. But if I could be barefoot all the time I would. And in summer, that's almost a reality. From sandals and flip flops to open-toed everything, my toes are polished and free for at least 3 months. And if you want to see some of the newest summer nail trends, check out Liz's post. No socks till after Labor Day!
2) The ocean: I'm sorry to those of you non-coasters, but to me there's nothing better than a refreshing dip in the ocean during a trip to the beach. Yes, it's pretty frigid until August, but from the smell to the breeze to the feel of the waves, the ocean is my happy place. And if you want to unleash your inner child, break out the boogie board and ride the waves like you just don't care.
3) Ice cream! Yes, you can eat ice cream year-round, but something about the heat makes it that much more satisfying. Is there anything better than a cool cone on a hot day?
4) Daylight/Sunsets: I'm a morning person. One of the worst things about winter is when you get up early to work out, it's dark. But in summer, when I leave the house at 6am the sun is already up. And since it doesn't set until after 8pm you get to actually witness the most stunning sunsets on a nightly basis!
5) Dining (and drinking) al fresco! Here in NY, the minute it gets above 60 degrees the sidewalk cafes are bustling with everyone sitting outside. There's something about dining outdoors, either day or night, that just makes your meal feel special and relaxing. And of course, with outdoor dining, comes outdoor drinking. NY has so many amazing rooftop bars and even simply locales with wide open windows, storefronts or back gardens that there is no reason to ever dine inside (unless it's scorchingly hot, which sadly is all of August).
