Spice up your hot cocoa!

Winter is the perfect time to enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate, but if you ever get bored with the normal cup - why not spice it up! This year at our holiday party we put together a hot chocolate bar with all the toppings and spices to make everyone's cup unique and delicious. That inspired me to put together some recipes to follow in case you're not sure where to start. Whether you want to stick with a great hot chocolate mix (Swiss Miss, Godiva, Cafe Escapes K Cups, etc) and just add some yummy toppings, or you want to whip up some hot cocoa from scratch, here are some great recipes to get you started.

House Party's Hot Chocolate Bar

Easy, Yummy Toppings

Peppermint-Hot-Cocoa

Peppermint Hot Chocolate If you have leftover candy canes from the holiday, this is the perfect use for them. Break the canes into small pieces as a topping for your hot chocolate. And keep part of the cane as the perfect stirrer! You can even add in a drop of peppermint extract to enhance the flavor (careful though, that stuff is strong!).

Cinnamon Hot Choc

Cinnamon Hot Chocolate A few dashes of cinnamon can go a long way. Add some whipped cream and a cinnamon stick stirrer and you have a nice variation of the traditional cup of hot chocolate! Sprinkle some crushed pecans on the whipped cream for an extra special touch.

Dark Hot Chocolate with a kick Whip up some dark hot chocolate and add a dash of cayenne pepper for a chocolaty, spicy kick!

Other topping ideas: crushed candy bars, marshmallows, crushed nuts, chocolate chips, sprinkles, peanut butter - get creative!

Homemade concoctions, from start to finish

redvelvet

Red Velvet Hot Cocoa with Cream Cheese Whipped Cream This recipe is quite fancy, but if you're a red velvet fan, it's worth it.

broiledhotchocolate

Broiled Bailey's Hot Chocolate No beverage list of mine is complete without a boozy option. This recipe is easy and the broiling perfects the crunchy-on-the-outside, gooey-on-the-inside marshmallow for the perfect topping.

Spicy-Cocoa-Recipe

Spicy Hot Chocolate Mocha Need a caffeine kick with your chocolatey treat? This recipe marries coffee, cocoa, cinnamon and nutmeg deliciously and only takes a few minutes to make!
