Celebrating National S'mores Day

Today is National S'mores day, and this being House Party, we decided to celebrate by having a s'mores party in the park. We'll find any excuse to eat! If you've read any of my previous blog posts, you know that when it comes to cooking and food preparation, I can never do anything the easy way. I like to find the fundamental elements of any recipe, deconstruct it into its simplest parts, and then rebuild it with my own flavor profile and cooking techniques.

Deconstructing s'mores is not that hard. All you need is a graham cracker, a toasted marshmallow and piece of chocolate. To me, that's boring! Everyone does that!

The wheels in my head started turning and I came up with a s'mores recipe that's sure to please any crowd. It sure pleased the Party Cats!

S'mores recipe:

  • Chocolate graham crackers
  • A jar of your favorite peanut butter (we used creamy, but crunchy could be interesting, too)
  • A bar of your favorite chocolate (milk or dark)
  • A bag of marshmallows

Happy National S'mores Day!Break the graham cracker into two square pieces. Slather some peanut butter on each graham cracker and then also apply a piece of chocolate to each graham cracker. The peanut butter acts as a nice adhesive for the chocolate. Set these aside and proceed to your marshmallow toasting station. When your marshmallow is nice and gooey, slap it on one of your graham crackers and then sandwich the other graham cracker on top. All done! Enjoy!

Next time we're thinking of adding pretzels or popcorn to the s'mores.
