Smack-dab in the middle of summer, National Hammock Day is celebrated on July 22nd and is a day when we should all take a few minutes to slow down, breathe and enjoy the warm summer air - preferably in a hammock. So there's no better day than today to celebrate that sturdy fabric that provides such comfort and relaxation. Here are a few questions you may have:
Q: What should you do in a hammock? A: Read, nap, listen to music, relax, download some apps, get some sun, think about why summer is awesome, stare at the stars, find clouds that look like objects, cuddle, enjoy a nice glass of wine, wave to your neighbors, ignore your neighbors... anything you want to do!
Q: When is a good time to use a hammock? A: Always! In fact, what are you doing right now? If you're not in a hammock, find one ASAP!
Q: I don't have a hammock. Where can I get one? A: You should be able to get a hammock from local stores like Target, Walmart, Lowes or Home Depot. Or, shop online and get free same day shipping! I got this hand woven beauty here and it's so comfortable - and colorful!
Q: I don't have room for a hammock. Am I doomed to miss out on this glorious relaxation mechanism? A: No way! There are places that you can frequent and enjoy a complimentary hammock swing. Here's just a few. Let us know if you have any to add!
- Fish Tales Restaurant in Ocean City, Maryland
- Hammock Grove on Governors Island in NY
- Chances are you may have something better to do if you're visiting Copenhagen, Denmark, but if you want to take a load off for a few minutes, check out off-ground to relax on hammocks made out of fire hoses.
- Birdcage chairs? Close enough. Visit the Continental Mid-town in Philadelphia for delicious food and cocktails, and a fun seat.
Q: Are there different types of hammocks? A: You bet! Hammocks for camping, self-standing hammocks, hammocks for 2, there are hammocks for all occasions. Here are a few examples!
Q: What if a bear takes a nap in my hammock? A: While this is unlikely, it is possible.
But hey, sharing is caring! If you find a bear in your hammock, seek shelter and take some pictures - you could end up on the news, too!
Q: How many people can I fit into a hammock? A: Usually 1 or 2 people, but each hammock will give you a max occupancy number or weight limit on the packaging. If you have a lot of people you want to lounge with, may I suggest the Mega Hammock.
What do you like most about hammocks? Today's the day to share!
