March Madness bracketology begins NOW!

March Madness bracketology begins NOW!

That time of the year is back again. We've slogged all the way through a long winter and we're finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Spring? No, though many of us up in the Northeast are certainly looking forward to that. However, for the time being, the light at the end of the tunnel involves college basketball. That's right, it's March Madness time again! Can I get a Hallelujah from my sports fans out there?? So, how confident and ready are you to fill out one of these...

Well, if you're like most folks, while you may love the NCAA Men's or Women's Basketball Tournament, it's unlikely that you're as informed as you'd like to be to this point. After all, there are twenty-some-odd games that Division 1 teams have played to date this season and that means there's a lot of catch-up work to be done.

Before we dive into the favorites, the Cinderella sweethearts and the confounding middle seeds (there won't be that much of that in this post by the way...so, don't worry!), let's take a look at some of the recent NCAA Men's basketball history. If you look at past winners in the last 25 years, you rapidly note that there's a core recurring set of names that emerge from the data: Connecticut, Kansas, Duke, Florida, North Carolina and Kentucky. There have been many others that have won as well during that time, but the odds have played rather nicely for that group.

And so, that brings us to this season, one that has been overcome by the statistically improbable 31-0 regular season record by Kentucky out of the Southeastern Conference. And while the Wildcats plodded along methodically, match-ups and outcomes were anything but predictable around the other major conferences.

And so, with all that certainty and uncertainty, it brings us right back to our blank March Madness brackets. Whether you're a die-hard Connecticut Huskies fan, a Michigan State Sparty supporter or you're advocating for the rising Witchita State Shockers, there's plenty of hopes to be attached to this field of 68 teams and just as many (save one!) that will be dashed somewhere along the way. Here are what the experts are saying and here is an overview of the Selection Sunday decisions:

So, there you have it. Selection Sunday has come and gone and now it's your turn to look at the seedings, study-up on the teams and go with your gut to try to get just a bit closer to picking the perfect March Madness bracket. Well, sort of...just keep in mind that the chances of actually achieving that are projected to be a mere 1 : 4,294,967,296. Well, at least it'll be fun to watch how it all shakes-out!

Who's your lucky pick to win it all?
