A reserved table for two at a fine restaurant. A picnic basket packed to the brim with goodies, champagne and a nice warm blanket.
A trail leading to a strikingly beautiful vista on a romantic hike.
These are all fantastically romantic dates (well, unless hiking is not your partner's "big thing," in which case the extra perspiration or chance of blisters might not be received with open arms!) However, these aren't what I have planned for my fiancee this Valentine's Day.
Whether it's due to the fact that both of our schedules metaphorically resemble an overstuffed closet or whether we simply don't get as much time as we'd like with each other, we're doing things a bit differently this year.
And I'll go ahead and posit that if you and your partner have been dating, married, committed for at least a year or two, you've got the leeway to do the same. So, take note! We're capping the night off with a romantic movie marathon. And before you go and start groaaaaning about the cheesiness of me and my fiancee doing a Valentine's Day version of dinner and a movie, let me assure you of three very important things: a) We will not be watching The Notebook. b) We will not be watching Titanic. c) We will not be watching Jerry Maguire.
Instead, we'll be enjoying an all-time favorite of hers, a classic black-and-white rom-com of mine and (though, it'll probably have to be the following day at that point), a slightly atypical romantic movie as well. So, in hopes of helping you prepare for your Valentine's Day, I've got a list of some of these great Valentine's Day movies to enjoy with your special someone, among which are some atypical movies for this particular holiday, too. (You've got to mix it up once in awhile after all!) Enjoy!
Valentine's Day Movie Magic 1. Love Actually* 2. Roman Holiday* 3. A Fish Called Wanda 4. As Good As It Gets 5. Forrest Gump 6. Barefoot in the Park 7. 50 First Dates 8. Romancing the Stone* 9. Der Himmel uber Berlin (Wings of Desire) 10. Stranger than Fiction
*Denotes a movie that my fiancee and I are enjoying this Valentine's Day!
A perfect addition, especially if you're keeping the Valentine's Day activities at home, is to spruce the atmosphere up with romantic lighting. After all, just because you're watching a movie doesn't mean that some candles can't provide some additional ambiance. Also, don't forget to top it all off with flowers. They may seem cliche, but no one - no matter their gender, age or temperament - dislikes getting flowers, particularly on this day. So, we've got your back on this one! Our partners From You Flowers are offering an exclusive House Specials deal for $15 for $30 worth of flowers. So, be sure to take advantage of this offer - I know I will be to add the final touches to the home turf for this romantic date night!
What's your go-to (or even your atypical) Valentine's Day movie choice?
