The 25 mobile apps we can't live without

It seems like there's an app for everything these days, and new ones coming out all the time. It may be hard to keep up with which ones are good, which ones are useful and which ones are just fun, so I've polled the House Party office and compiled our favorite, "can't-live-without" apps.

Health & Beauty

The skinDeep appScreen Shot 2014-06-03 at 9.24.05 PM - The app can scan bar codes to tell you if harmful ingredients are in the products you're buying. You can also search by product name.

 

Travel

BubbliScreen Shot 2014-06-03 at 9.43.11 AM (2) - the app for making dynamic spherical photos and videos called bubbles. Great for sharing 360 degree views with friends and family that aren't with you.

 

VSCO CamScreen Shot 2014-06-03 at 9.37.53 AM (2) - this sleekly-designed app provides a twist on the typical photo filtering app, with a community of VSCO Grids (user photography collections) and integrates amazingly well with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and several other services. Big-time fun here.

 

Food

AllRecipesScreen Shot 2014-06-03 at 9.00.31 PM - perfect for when you're shopping in the grocery store and don't have a recipe with you. It's very easy to look up the recipe, see all the ingredients and make your shopping trip MUCH easier.

 

YummlyScreen Shot 2014-06-03 at 9.00.35 PM - great recipe app that aggregates recipes from a many different sites and pulls them into one app. You can search recipes that match your tastes and diet preferences, save them to a digital recipe box and even build shopping lists!

Fast FoodScreen Shot 2014-06-03 at 9.16.12 PM - shows you restaurant deals, menu, reviews, ratings, map and info all on one page. Gives the calorie count and nutrition facts for the menu items in over a hundred fast food/chain restaurants.

Brain Pop Jr.BrainPOP - The BrainPOP Featured Movie and BrainPOP Jr. Movie of the Week apps regularly deliver fresh movies, quizzes, and bonus features right to your handheld device.

 

Heads Up Heads up - a fun game for kids and adults a like. Guess the answer on your head from your friends' clues before the timer runs out in many different categories.

 

Productivity

TodoistTodoist - A to do app that integrates with 13 platforms - including Outlook, Chrome and iPhone - and also let's you share tasks with others.

 

 

eWalletKeeperLooking for a way to store all your passwords? Try eWallet or Keeper.

 

 

PaperlessPaperless - a list app that you can sync with Dropbox for all your devices. You can build lists within lists and include clip art. Easy to create to do lists, make grocery lists, take notes, write an outline for a story, prepare notes for a presentation, keep track of gift ideas, plan a vacation, etc.

 

Mint.comMint - Mint automatically pulls all your financial information into one place, so you can get the entire picture. Mint alerts you of any suspicious activity, provides reminders to update your credit score, etc. - useful in terms of budget planning and it's free!

 

PocketPocket - This app is a great way to view documents, blogs and all sorts of digital publications in an offline mode by simply exporting them to the app. GREAT for subways!

 

GistGist - This news summary app has a bunch of great source plugins so you can get exactly the news you want and from trusted sources, aggregates the news well and has a clean, easy-to-use interface.

 

Misc.

WazeWaze - a lot of us in the office are a big fan of this navigation app. It is a social GPS app, so routes are constantly updated in real time as users report accidents, delays, police - even red light cameras are reported. It is one of the best GPS apps that we've come across and a must have when you're planning a long drive or road trip!

 

Houzz appHouzz - Find home improvement inspiration on the go - super cool ideas for decorating rooms and spaces in the house as well as outdoor patio/decks as well.

 

ShazamShazam - learn the names and artists of songs in seconds - this app listens to the songs and matches back to a central database and delivers you the song and artist on the spot.
