Dishwasher cooking: Delicacies from the “pots and pans” cycle

You read that right. It does indeed say “dishwasher cooking” as the title of this blog post. Now, it’s likely that you’re in one of two camps as you begin reading. You’re either: a) excited by the prospect of actually being able to cook using another household appliance that isn’t your oven or b) pretty sure that I’m off-my-rocker and expecting quite a bit more lunacy as you read on.

When Brian isn’t skydiving or mountain biking he loves to travel, woodwork and peruse an old favorite, Calvin and Hobbes. Brian’s number one party tip is to fire up the grill – no matter what the occasion or the temperature outside, it’s just not a party without some sizzle! (That, and to ensure the makings for a good Manhattan are near.)

Cooking with Sarah: Bread maker recipes

Last month, my mom had the opportunity to order a free small appliance with a gift card she received as an Administrative Assistant’s Day gift. She’s always thinking of me — especially when it comes to awesome stuff for my new apartment — and offered it up. I could choose from food processors, ice cream makers, coffee machines…you name it. I was drawn to the bread maker…but when I asked for other people’s opinions, they all said, “You’ll never use it!” or “It’ll just collect dust,” or my personal favorite, “You’re going to gain like 100 pounds!” Pffffffffffft. I got it anyway. And it’s awesome. Bread maker recipes can range from super easy to complicated — here’s one that’s a little tricky, but totally worth it.

This is a fancy way of saying that she made sure that you were heard, helped and having fun. She also tweeted as one half of the contributors to our @HousePartyFun Twitter handle with Jared. She was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada, but has since moved to the northern corner of New York City, where she lives with her boyfriend and their sassy chinchilla, Rufus. Audiophiles at heart, they’ve crammed-in five guitars and way more speakers and gigabytes of music than a little apartment should hold. Her party tip: no matter the size or type of party, put on music just loud enough to cover up the sound of chewing (ew!), but not chatting.

Although Cinco de Mayo and Memorial Day Weekend are now behind us, that’s no reason to stop the party. As of last Wednesday, it’s officially the summer season, and that in itself is reason to celebrate! I believe it’s my job as the resident mixologist to arm you with the necessary cocktail recipes you’ll need to get the party started!

Cooking with Larry: BBQ Flatbread Pizza

One of my favorite things to make on the grill is pizza.

Yes, pizza.

Cinco de Derby is upon us!

In Larry’s post, earlier this week, I included my best margarita recipe which would be great for a day like today. But, at the time, I didn’t realize Cinco de Mayo is extra special this year, falling on the first Saturday of May, which is also Derby Day! The Kentucky Derby starts at 5pm EST sharp, so get your bets in — and be sure to give this post a quick read to get some great recipes for a fun party including drinks, food and plenty of party activities.

Cooking with Larry: Sweet & Savory

Sweet and savory is one of my favorite flavor combinations. About five years ago, I had a dish called “Cap’n Crunch Chicken” at a German restaurant in Long Island. It was tasty enough that the dish was stuck in the back of my mind ever since that time. When I was thinking about what I would write for this month’s cooking post, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to try and recreate that recipe.

Big spring gathering

It’s that glorious time of year when people are coming out of hibernation for various spring festivities. I’ve had some large gatherings over the years and would like to share a few valuable tips to maximize space, stretch your dollar and make sure everyone has a great time! So whether you are having people over for the holidays, or just simply to get together, these should help you plan with aplomb!

Cooking with Larry: Thai Chicken Red Curry

On a random Wednesday four years ago, my coworker, Jeff, and I were about to make the most difficult decision of the day. What was for lunch? Pizza? Chinese? Mediocre deli food from the cafeteria down the hall?

Inside the House Party fridge

It’s a Monday here at House Party and, like nearly every workplace, the company fridge is quickly being filled with a vast selection of lunchtime treats. While there are the occasional “lunch-out” days for all of us, many in our organization choose the health-conscious, low-cost alternative to their midday meals. In honor of this and frugalistas everywhere, I’ve picked some of the most popular dishes that grace our office around the noon hour.

Pancake time at House Party Headquarters!

Health insurance. Access to Facebook and Twitter. Stock options. Pancakes. That’s right…pancakes. In my book, this is the most valuable perk of being a House Party employee!
