The trees are up, lights are strung and wreaths are long since hung. Today is Christmas Day and all the preparation is done. The time to simply enjoy each other’s company is finally at hand. House Party made time a little over a week ago to do exactly this — catch-up, exchange gifts and reminisce about another year’s hard work. As you can see there was plenty of enjoyment to go around!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and deep wishes of peace to you and yours from the entire House Party team. (Holiday) party on!Read full post
Chocolate. Nectar of the gods. Silkener of tongues. Mellower of moods. Chocolate is so darn good you could just about cover anything in it and it would taste amazing. In fact, yesterday just happened to put that theory to the test- it was National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day! For real. Though we don’t typically post on weekends, we definitely thought this was worth celebrating – even if it’s the day after. (Speaking of which, shouldn’t this be more like a week-long festival anyway??) Although no one really knows the origin of this fantastically conceived holiday, we asked our community on Facebook to tell us, “If you could cover anything in chocolate, what would it be?” We present a mere sampling of the delectable and sometimes frightening responses:Read full post
The holiday season — the most dangerous time of year for music fans, when radio stations go on 24/7 Rudolph rotation, and malls and department stores flood your ears with saccharine yuletide melodies. It’s enough to squash whatever holiday good cheer you may have had left in your system. But, fear not! You can combat the onslaught of overly merry tunes with these fun, alternative holiday songs:Read full post
Imagine reading that title in your best Cookie Monster voice. ‘Cause that’s how we feel about cookies: deserving of an exclamation mark and best eaten with abandon. So many types of those delectable bites, perfectly portioned and with just enough punch in each one to satisfy and yet leave you wanting for more. Or better, eaten raw out of the bowl. But we digress. In honor of this most delectable and portable holiday treat, we present three cookie recipes that are sure to impress any holiday guest. Assuming you don’t finish the bowl first!Read full post
Getting yourself to workout is difficult, but adding snow, freezing temperatures, and the never-ending holiday feasting makes it about ten times harder (for me anyway)! Who wants to go outside and run when you can’t even feel your toes? But this coming April, I’ve decided to complete a half-marathon, despite my seasonal lack of motivation.Read full post

Thanksgiving. The name says it all. A time to give thanks, to reflect on what we have and enjoy time spent with loved ones. This year, in light of Hurricane Sandy, us East Coast House Partiers are even more thankful for the health and safety of our friends and family. So, we thought we’d collectively share what we have to be thankful for (our awesome readers and community, notwithstanding, of course!). Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!Read full post
Today, many of us have the day off to recognize Veterans Day, celebrated annually on November 11th. Too often this day is just a “day off” from work or school, so we wanted to truly take a moment to thank all of our veterans and active military for their service and sacrifices. We also want to send a huge shout-out to our community members whose families are serving our country! Last week, we asked you on Facebook and Twitter how you celebrate Veterans Day and honor those who’ve served our country in the armed forces.Read full post
In each installment of The 4-1-1, we’ll interview a different member of the House Party community, asking the big questions that are on everyone’s minds.
Many of you have gotten to know Larry from the adventurous and tasty recipes he’s shared here on our blog. Cooking expertise, however, is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Larry. As one of our senior web developers, he builds the technology that runs our website and apps. Larry is also an avid fan of mixed martial arts, a certified scuba diver, collector of movie rarities and proud dog owner. Cheyne, another one of our web developers, sat down with Larry to learn more.Read full post
